![]() Zombie gives a better synopsis of the film than we’ve previously had: The real truth is that Zombie’s Halloween films are simply bad movies, and that’s why people don’t like them.Īnd Lords of Salem, his next film? He’s been gestating it for years now - it was actually a movie idea before he turned it into a song. Of course if it had been far removed but GOOD, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. He made Michael Myers fairly unrecognizable in Halloween II, and it felt so far removed from what had been established as a Halloween film that it made you wonder why bother throwing that name on it. But at the same time, he’s not getting the point of a franchise, which is to revisit characters and situations. There’s an auteur thing going on which I respect. I hate both of his Halloween films, but I hate the sequel marginally less because it at least feels like a movie Rob Zombie would make. If it’s too similar to the original, everybody wonders what the point was, but if it’s too different, everybody complains that it’s… too different! I found especially with Halloween II that everyone talked about what it wasn’t and not what it was: ‘you can’t do that with Michael Myers you can’t do that with Loomis…’ It’s like people have a set of rules in their minds about how these things should function, and you can’t work like that.
